Fun runners take to the streets for Good Hope Hospital

The Great Midlands Fun Run took place around the streets and parks of Sutton Coldfield this weekend, and Good Hope Hospital Charity was represented by 75 amazing fundraisers, running to raise money for patients at the hospital.

Many of the 75 were taking on the fun run as part of a team, running alongside colleagues and friends from the hospital. A team of staff from the hospital, calling themselves ‘Team Chemo’ took on the 8.5 mile run to raise money to support chemotherapy patients at Good Hope, and were joined on the route by teams from the Radiology Department, the Treatment Centre, midwives and the Ophthalmology Department.

There were also teams from local businesses running, walking and jogging their way around Sutton Coldfield wearing the distinctive vests of the hospital charity. New Hall Hotel and Spa in Sutton Coldfield had a large contingent taking part, as did the local Specsavers branch.

Good Hope Hospital Charity Fundraising Manager Laura Power took part in the event, alongside colleagues Mike and Justine, and decided to go ‘over and above’ by pushing Charity mascot 'Big Ted' around the course in an old hospital wheelchair.

Laura said: “The Great Midlands Fun Run is always a special day, it was amazing to see so many people taking part to raise money to support patients at Good Hope Hospital. On behalf of the Charity, I would like to thank everyone who took part today and helped to make it such a special occasion.

“Thanks to the hard work of all of the Charity’s fun runners, the Charity will be able to continue to provide ‘added extras’ for patients and staff at the hospital. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event where hopefully we’ll have even more runner taking part, although I’m not sure I’ll be pushing Big Ted around the course again, that was hard work!”

There are plenty of events coming up that you can take part in to raise money for patients at Good Hope. If you’ve been inspired to take on a running challenge, then look no further than the SimplyHealth Great Birmingham Run which returns to the streets of the Second City on 14 October.
