Fundraiser Lucy Davies runs half marathon for the Urology Department

At the age of 52, Phil Taylor sadly passed away in May of this year after losing his battle to cancer.

Lucy Davies, a close friend of the family and best friend to Phil’s daughter decided to go ‘over and above’ to raise money in memory of Phil.

Lucy spoke of Phil highly stating that he was "a really hardworking and fun loving individual who had an amazing life, living it to the full!" As a tribute to him, she decided to take part in the ABP Southampton Half Marathon to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Urology Department who treated Phil during his battle with cancer.

She ran the ABP Southampton Half Marathon back in April of this year on an extremely hot day, making the run all the more challenging. Despite this, she raised an astonishing £462 with her original target being £250 and completed the marathon in just over two hours. When asked why she decided to donate to QEHB Charity Lucy said: “I chose the charity as Phil was treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham during his battle with cancer, but I have also found a number of friends’ relatives that have been treated there too so it seemed like an extremely worthy cause”

Rachel Learmonth, Senior Fundraiser for QEHB Charity said: “Thank you so much, Lucy, the Charity is extremely grateful for this generous donation towards the Urology department here at QEHB! Lucy has gone ‘over and above’ to raise money to support patients like Phil, taking on the challenge of running a half marathon is certainly not an easy task (especially in hot weather), but judging from her picture she completed it with ease, Well done Lucy”
