Fundraiser raises money for Fisher House for the third year in a row

Donna Jones has been holding a charity night for Fisher House at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for the past three years, and this year has raised a huge £1,000.

After a visit from Dave Watson, the Charity’s Patient Advocate, in 2016, Donna decided that she wanted to fundraise for Fisher House and hosted a charity night at Drayton Bassett Village Club.

The group found out that the Charity wasn’t government funded and wanted to help the Charity make a difference to the people who stay at Fisher House, the hospital’s home from home, by hosting charity nights including a DJ, band, buffet and raffle!

Donna said: “This is the third fundraiser I have held for Fisher House and I’ll be doing another one next year. I started fundraising for Fisher House after Dave came and visited and told us a bit about the Charity and how Fisher House is funded and ever since then I’ve wanted to keep fundraising to help keep Fisher House going.”

The Women’s Institute supported Donna’s fundraising efforts by supplying raffle prizes which this year raised an additional £116!

Amy Harding, Communications Assistant for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said: “A huge congratulations and thank you to Donna for hosting yet another successful charity night! The money raised for Fisher House will go towards helping run the house and making sure that everyone’s stay is as comfortable as it can be.

“The house provides a supportive environment for families of military patients in the hospital, patients can also stay in the house when they are in their recovery stage so they are close to the hospital but also with their loved ones.”

Fisher House is the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s home away from home for military patients and their families. The house is a supportive and friendly environment for families of military patients, and the patients themselves when they are ready to come out of hospital, and they see over 700 people per year.

People like you can help to keep Fisher House running and can make sure that each individual person is catered to during their stay at the house.
