Fundraising Friday- Velo special!

For this week’s Velo Special edition of Fundraising Friday the spotlight is on Stuart Gemmell and his wife Kelly who are taking part in Velo to raise funds for Fisher House.

In May of 2013, while serving in Afghanistan with the British Army, Stuart was involved in an explosion that left him with life-changing injuries.
After many operations and eight weeks in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Stuart spent a further years rehabilitating in DMRC Headley Court.

Stuart’s family spent time in Fisher House, a ‘home from home’ for the families of military patients allowing them to stay within walking distance of the hospital whilst their loved ones are being cared for.

Stuart said: “Thanks to all the doctors and nurses at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, along with the hospital charity and everyone at Fisher House, I am now able to lead a mostly normal life.  My family and I owe them all a massive debt of gratitude. Cycling 100 miles with two legs is no mean feat in its self, but as I am doing this with one leg, it will really be a huge achievement for me.”
