Fundraising Friday

This week's Fundraising Friday shout out goes to Angelic Stars, a charity that supports children with serious or life-limiting illnesses, for kindly donating a wonderful selection of toys to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, to bring some comfort and reassurance to children visiting the hospital for treatment.

The toys will benefit the hundreds of children who visit the hospital for radiotherapy every year. The treatment is a course that can last five days, every week for six weeks, and requires extreme bravery from our young patients and their families.

QEHB Charity recently refurbished the radiotherapy department to make it more child-friendly, creating a new play area in the waiting room, and building and decorating a special consultation room for patients. The toys kindly donated by Angelic Stars will help to keep young patients occupied and distracted as they wait for their appointments, and will help to entertain siblings too.

The toys will also benefit children who are admitted to Accident and Emergency, and those who are staying at Fisher House, a 'home away from home' for military patients and their families on-site of the hospital.

Sophie Carroll, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: "We are so grateful to receive wonderful gifts like this for the hundreds of children who are treated at QEHB every year.

"It makes such a difference to their time in hospital, and helps to support parents too. On behalf of QEHB Charity I'd like to say a special thank you to Sam from Angelic Stars for organising this brilliant and thoughtful donation."
