Fundraising night brings in amazing amount for Heart in a Box

Birmingham couple Michael and Patsy Spellacy have raised an incredible £2,300 for the Heart in a Box campaign which will help to revolutionise the way that heart transplants are carried out here at QEHB.

Michael and Patsy, of Hall Green, hosted a quiz night and auction at Our Lady of Lourdes Social Club which saw 22 teams take on the quiz, alongside an auction including a ball signed by Birmingham City players and a boxing glove signed by heavyweight  champion of the world Anthony Joshua.

The couple raised a fantastic £1,100 on the night, with Phoenix Life Limited, a finance company for whom Patsy works, matching this. A further £100 came from construction firm Paul John Group making a wonderful total that Patsy, Michael and their friends and family should be proud of.

Michael was inspired to raise money for Heart in a Box following a triple heart bypass that he received at the hospital in March 2017. Michael had been experiencing chest pains some months earlier and after examination at QEHB, doctors found a blockage around a valve in Michael’s heart.

Michael said: “The care I received at the hospital was fantastic. I’m now fighting fit again so I thought it was important to give something back. I’m delighted with how much money we raised, everyone had a fantastic time and I know that it is going to contribute to a great cause.”

Jess Harris, Fundraising Hub Assistant at QEHB Charity said: “Huge thanks go from the Charity to Michael and Patsy, their family and friends and Phoenix Life Limited and Paul John Group. The money that they have raised will go a long way to bringing Heart in a Box to QEHB which will increase the number of heart transplants at the hospital by up to 50%.”
