Gallagher Bassett team prepare for Snowdon Challenge

A team of 50 fundraisers are preparing for an epic challenge like no other that will see them climb Mount Snowdon, overnight, to raise funds for a military home from home.

The intrepid walkers all work for Gallagher Bassett, a claims services provider that operates in more than 75 countries worldwide, and are coming together from across the UK to raise money for Fisher House.

Fisher House is the home away from home at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham which provides free accommodation for military patients and their families, free of charge. Fisher House is funded entirely thanks to charitable donations and since its opening in 2013 has provided free accommodation for nearly 5,000 people. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and is the receiving hospital for all UK military personnel.

The Gallagher Bassett team will be tackling Mount Snowdon overnight from Friday 13 to Saturday 14 September, taking on the highest mountain in England and Wales to raise money for Fisher House.

Fisher House offers a home away from home for military patients and their families.

Julie Cowley BEM, Executive Assistant at Gallagher Bassett, has been the driving force behind this fundraising challenge and explained that each year the Gallagher Bassett executive team do something to raise money for charity.

Fisher House has been close to Julie’s heart since the fundraising campaign to open the home from home began. Julie said: “When I suggested Fisher House as a fundraising idea to the team they were all keen to get involved. I had seen that Fisher House puts on Sunrise Snowdon Challenges and we all thought that it would be great fun to take part in our own!”

The 50 fundraisers have been assembled from the seven Gallagher Bassett offices in the UK, and will be meeting together at Fisher House before setting off for Wales, where they will start their climb in the early hours of the morning after a hearty dinner at the Padarn Hotel.

The team will arrive at the summit of the mountain in time for the sunrise at around 6am before returning for breakfast at the hotel!

This view will await the team at the top of Mount Snowdon.

Thanks to the hard work of the fundraisers taking part, and the generosity of their friends and family, the team have already raised over £6,000.

Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising for Fisher House UK, said: “On behalf of everyone at Fisher House I would like to wish the amazing Gallagher Bassett team the best of luck for their incredible adventure. They have already raised an incredible amount of money, which will help us provide the very best support for our families at Fisher House.

“Fisher House costs £250,000 per year to keep open, and we are only able to do this thanks to the incredible support of donors and fundraisers like the Gallagher Bassett team. I look forward to welcoming them to Fisher House before their walk begins and I hope that the inspiration of Fisher House will help them up the mountain!”
