Haematology and Oncology Day Unit receives Cloud Kits!

Thanks to your wonderful donations the hospital charity is able to provide 'added extras' that go over what the NHS can fund. Today, Solihull Hospital Charity has been able to provide the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit with Cancer Cloud kits!

Cancer Cloud kits are specifically designed for children and young people whose parents have sadly been diagnosed with cancer.

The kits, which include toy hedgehogs for 3-5 year olds, tigers for 6-11 year olds and the Cancer Cloud kit for young people aged 12-16, are designed to give information in an accessible format. The kits also include activities and therapy tools to be used by parents and teachers and are designed to support children to process their emotions and come to terms with their parent's diagnosis. Cancer can be very scary and confusing for children and young adults, the hospital charity wanted to go 'over and above' for not only the hospital's cancer patients, but their children too.

Pictured below are staff members at the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit, Sam who is the Health Care Assistant and Leanne, a Sister on the ward who were on the unit today to receive the kits.

Rachel Learmonth, Fundraising Manager at Solihull Hospital Charity said: “The Cancer Cloud kits are extremely useful tools in helping young children to come to terms with cancer, and to improve communication between parents and their children. The Charity is proud to have been able to support the Cloud kits, and help to make the cancer journey just a little easier for families.”

If you would like to donate towards funding for a Cancer Cloud kit to help children and young adults to aid their understanding of their loved ones cancer diagnosis and treatment please donate today at hospitalcharity.org/donate thank you.
