Heartfelt thanks to festive fundraisers

Thank you to all of our dedicated supporters who helped us spread Christmas cheer this year as part of our QE Christmas Campaign.

Throughout the appeal, which launched in October, QEHB Charity has been fundraising for the benefit of the staff and approximately 80,000 patients who have passed through the hospital during the holiday season. This includes roughly 1,000 people who had to spend Christmas Day in their hospital bed.

We’ve provided decorated Christmas trees for the heritage building, cancer centre, and every floor of the main hospital, as well as paying for TV cards to make sure every patient could watch festive films on Christmas Day. We’ve also delivered hampers of sweet treats to every ward for patients and staff to enjoy together, and special gifts for children and teenagers with cancer.

So that’s what we’ve done – but we couldn’t have done any of it without your help!

You’ve dressed up in novelty knits for Festive Jumper Day, held raffles and cake sales, and performed carols in the hospital atrium. You’ve sent us your photos, shared our Facebook posts, and told your friends. You’ve donated in collecting tins, handed us cheques and given generously online.

Carollers from Blue Coat School

From the school choirs who sang carols, to the organisations who sponsored Christmas trees; from dedicated staff members who held raffles, to individuals who donated online, the support shown for those at the QE at this time of year has been phenomenal.

Mike Hammond, Chief Executive of QEHB Charity, said: “This campaign has been all about showing the patients and staff who had to be at the QE over Christmas how much we as a community care about them, and I think we have certainly achieved that! On behalf of the charity I want to thank everyone who has given so generously to help make Christmas in hospital as festive as possible.”

Thank you all – we look forward to fundraising with you in the new year!
