Help patients remember with your photos

At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, every ward has a box entitled ‘Make Specialling Special’. This box is designed for patients who are receiving one-to-one care due to having some form of cognitive impairment.

Various resources such as games and activity books are already being used, but these boxes will add another layer of assistance as they will assist patients in reminiscing; they will provide a point from which conversation can flourish betwixt themselves and those caring for them.

The Dignity in Care Team is asking for people to share photographs of famous international landmarks which will resonate with those patients who have a heritage outside of the United Kingdom. The Dignity in Care Team is especially interested in photos of the Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China, landmarks of Pakistan, the Philippines, and the Caribbean. These will be of great benefit to those patients with dementia and a plethora of other mental health conditions that challenge their day-to-day life.

To take part, please email your photos (scanned photos are permissible) to Dignityincare@uhb.nhs.uk, and state what is being shown in the photo.
