Join the BONE-shaker MARROW-thon
Help QEHB Charity raise funds and awareness of blood cancer by taking part in the BONE-shaker MARROW-thon, back for a third year!
The motorbike ride from Birmingham to Burton on Trent takes place on Sunday 10th April and has been organised by Steve Sinfield.
Steve’s wife Katherine is a primary school teacher from Burton on Trent who was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in April 2013 following a visit to A&E.
Katherine chose to use her illness as a means of raising awareness and getting more people to sign the bone marrow register. Now, she is urging bikers to join the BONE-shaker MARROW-thon to raise money for QEHB Charity, Cure Leukaemia and Anthony Nolan.
Steve said: “Katherine’s treatment started at the Queen’s Hospital in Burton on Trent before she was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, and so we wanted something which could link the two. The idea of the BONE-shaker MARROW-thon is to literally ride Queens to Queens – one hospital to the other.”
To date, the charity ride has helped to raise more than £3,200 which is split equally between Cure Leukaemia, Anthony Nolan and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Organiser Katherine Sinfield, 35, said: “The motorcycling community has always supported our event and we hope that they will turn out in force again this year to help us to continue the fight against blood cancer.
“The plan for 2016 is the same as in previous years where riders will meet on the rooftop car park of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham ready for a prompt 11am departure.
“The ride then makes its 35-mile journey to Burton-on-Trent where there will be food and drink available in a marquee. As the ride finishes in the global capital of brewing, it’s fitting that the event finishes at the National Brewery Centre.
“As per usual, the ride will help to showcase the invaluable work of the Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes and their riders will be present at the ride to speak about their life-saving volunteer work.”
“The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham has kindly allowed us to start the ride from the rooftop of their main car park at 11am. We will then make a steady 35-mile journey back to Burton on Trent passing the Queen’s Hospital en-route.
“Following the ride there will be refreshments held at the National Brewery Centre in Burton.”
Bikers wishing to take part are asked to make a £5 contribution at start of the ride, which can be made payable on the day.
