Kind hearted friend treks earth’s highest mountain

A kind-hearted friend has trekked the Mt. Everest Base camp to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.

Sarah Hubbard decided to tackle a trek of mighty proportions by walking for 11 days through the base camp of Mt. Everest, earth’s highest mountain.

The challenge took place in March this year, and has so far raised over £400 for QEHB Charity.

The brave friend explained: “My friend’s mum was admitted to the Critical Care department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham at the start of December, when the family was advised that she would not pull through her illness.

“To everyone’s surprise and delight she pulled through an induced coma, grew stronger and is now back at home.

“The strength she has shown really inspired me to dedicate my climb to her. Having spoken with her about the ordeal she has nothing but positive words to describe the care she received at the QE.

“My friend would have been distraught to lose her mum (she gave birth to her first child while her mum was still in ICU) and we are so grateful to everyone who helped her regain her health.

“I’m delighted and humbled to be able to donate as much sponsorship as I can to QEHB Charity, and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far.”

Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Sarah for her fantastic fundraising and would like to thank her for her support.

“We hope that lots of people have been inspired by Sarah’s story and would encourage all those interested to contact us about the various challenge events we have on offer.

“From trekking the Sahara Desert to climbing the Three Peaks, we are more than happy to support you in your endeavours!

“Simply get in touch by emailing Sian.Averill@uhb.nhs.uk or call 0121 371 4852.”
