Ladies Group generously supports three Charity appeals

A generous group of ladies from Birmingham have donated over £6,000 to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity in just one year.

The Ladies Group of Birmingham led by Harbans Kaur Lalli, visited homes across the city to conduct ‘Sukhmani Sahib’ (jewel of happiness) hymns from the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib.

These prayers are often followed by giving to charitable causes. Upon hearing about QEHB Charity’s role in supporting patients at the QE hospital, including specific appeals that fund specialist equipment and ‘added extras’, such as the Dementia appeal, Eye appeal and QE Fighting Skin Cancer Fund, Harbans decided they would donate the money raised throughout the year to these three QEHB Charity appeals.

She said: “We are delighted to have raised £6,400 for QEHB Charity’s different appeals. It’s great to know the money we have donated is already making a great difference to patients and their families.”

The Eye Appeal raised £250,000 to buy three new pieces of equipment which are not standard for the NHS but are helping to save the sight of some of the 20,000 people who go blind in the UK every year. Similarly, the Dementia fund and QE Fighting Skin Cancer fund help provide ‘added extras’ that are not usually available for NHS patients, including funding cutting-edge research into discovering new treatments for cancers and providing specialist software and patient entertainment systems to help calm nerves and jog memories.

Laura Power, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “The money kindly donated by the Guru Nanak Ladies Jatha has already been put to good use, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support.

“The charity relies entirely on generous donations from individuals, groups and companies to be able to make a difference to patients at the hospital, and it is thanks to kind-hearted people like Harbens and the Ladies Group that we are able to make coming to the hospital as pleasant an experience as possible.

“We can’t thank Harbans and the Group of Ladies enough for their prayers and for all of their efforts in raising this fantastic amount.”
