Learning Hub team scoop first prize

The team from the Learning Hub at QEHB raised an incredible £550 for the hospital charity by hosting a fantastic NHS Big 7Tea party to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS. The team put on an incredible spread of cakes and biscuits, with the staff adopting a World War II theme for the day, dressing up as army officers and wearing 1940s-style dresses.

The Learning Hub provides training for unemployed people in the local area, helping to find them entry-level jobs within the NHS. The Learning Hub has been open for 10 years, and the tea party was also a celebration of a decade of helping local people finding employment.

Kim Brown, Learning Hub Tutor, said: “Everyone at the Learning Hub was delighted to have held such a fantastic tea party. We’re incredibly proud to work at the Learning Hub, and it has been excellent to celebrate ten years of helping local people find employment. Over the years, we have helped 2,500 people into work, making a real difference to the community around QEHB.”

The team at the Learning Hub raised the most money out of all of the NHS Big 7Tea parties held across the hospital to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, and as a result won a £100 Sainsbury's voucher for the team to enjoy. Rachel Learmonth, Senior Fundraiser at QEHB Charity, said: "Well done to everyone at the Learning Hub for hosting such an excellent tea party! It was a great party, and I know that the Charity's Chair of Trustees Dave Mackay enjoyed visiting the Learning Hub, as did Rt Hon Jacqui Smith, Chair of UHB Trust.
