Local soldier supports military families

A local soldier is set to embark on a gruelling challenge to raise money for military patients and their families, as well as cancer patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).

Clinton Bottrell, a soldier currently serving in 159 Regiment RLC in Birmingham, will compete in Iron Man UK this weekend to raise money for Fisher House, a ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families.

The gruelling event takes place in Bolton on 17 July, and consists of multiple challenges, including a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run, all to be completed within 17 hours.

The 38 year old, who lives with his wife Sarah in Shard End, Birmingham, said: “I chose to support QEHB Charity because it is a cause very close to my heart.

“My father and a few of my friends were treated for cancer at QEHB. It is a fantastic hospital and one that I am proud to support.

“I am also pleased to be able to support Fisher House. It is an incredible facility and one that we are lucky to have – it is so reassuring to know that it is there for me, should I, or my family, ever need it.”

Clinton has raised £760 of his £1,000 target, which will support military and cancer patients at QEHB. To donate to his JustGiving page please click here
