Military patients and staff reunite at special family event

Last Saturday, 15th August, QEHB Charity held a special family fun day for military patients and their families, as they were reunited with staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham who helped care for them in times of great trauma.

The event, called Celebration of Life, was kindly sponsored by EZE Group and marked the second anniversary of Fisher House, a ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families. Since opening its doors in June 2013, the House has provided over 8,000 nights of free accommodation to the families of ill or injured soldiers.

Over 300 military patients and their families gathered with hospital staff at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, a long with Help for Heroes Band of Brothers and Band of Sisters and staff and families from Fisher House.

A host of fun fairground attractions kept the crowds entertained and included a waltzer, bumper cars, trampolines and a mini ferris wheel. Other events included arcade games, live music, popcorn and doughnuts and a traditional BBQ.

Laura Power, Senior Fundraiser at QEHB Charity, said: “We are especially grateful to EZE Group for generously sponsoring the event and are delighted so many people were able to join us.

“It was fantastic to see how far our patients and their families have come since they first came through the doors of the QE and it was heart-warming to witness many touching reunions.”

Although families stay at Fisher House for free, it costs the charity £25 per night to accommodate them. To help us continue to keep families together please donate today, or to find out more information please visit www.fisherhouseuk.org or call 0121 371 4852.
