Mum's miracle inspires fundraising for Neonatal Unit

On 17 November, brave mother, Hayley Meddings presented Heartlands Hospital Charity with a cheque for a staggering £1,599 to go to the Neonatal Unit.

Hayley was inspired to fundraise after the difficulties she faced during her pregnancy with daughter, Maddie. Hayley’s waters broke at 18 weeks, and Maddie was starved of oxygen after the umbilical cord prolapsed. Maddie was eventually born at 26 weeks and stayed on the Neonatal Unit at Heartlands.

Hayley said “Maddie is now a bright and happy 16 month old, she really is a little miracle and has brought so much happiness to my life. I am so grateful to the Unit for helping my family.”

The fundraiser raised money by making chocolate boxes and holding charity days at her mum’s pub, the Albion Vaults in Nechells.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity said: “Thank you to Hayley and her family for sharing your inspiring story with the Charity and for raising such valuable funds for the Neonatal Unit. The monies will go towards providing ‘added extras’ over and above those which the NHS can provide.
