On May 27 the Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer Support Group held a fundraising dinner and raised an incredible £2,004!

The event was attended by patients, carers, medical teams, family and friends. During the evening a raffle and auction took place which resulted in a fabulous £2,004 being raised which will support the work of the oesophageal and gastric cancer medical teams at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

During the evening a presentation was made to Val Munro. Her husband, Jim, sadly died just six months ago and, as one of the Support Group’s founding members, it seemed fitting to acknowledge his work with the Jim Munro Chalice. This Chalice will be awarded annually to a medical student who deserves a mark of recognition or honour of an achievement working in the area of oesophageal and gastric cancers.

Cathryn Worth, Senior Fundraising Manager at UHB Charity, said: "We are so grateful for the many years of support we have recieved from the group and it is our pleasure to in return support the group and all patients going through treatment for oesophageal and gastric cancers."
