Outdoor Physical Training announces third annual sports day for Fisher House

On Sunday 12 June 2016, at Alcester Rugby Football Club (B49 5QF), fitness company Outdoor Physical Training will once again host their extremely popular annual Sports Day in aid of injured and ill soldiers and veterans receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Starting at 11am and continuing all day, this will be the third year in a row that O.P.T founders Clinton Slater and Barny O’Neill hold the much-anticipated event in support of Fisher House, QEHB Charity’s ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families.

The Sports Day event is open to all ages and abilities. It will present a range of quirky challenges, including a tyre push, press up challenge, tug-of-war and a main event, where prizes will be given for the best male and best female competitors. Children will also be catered for with a mini obstacle course, face painting, ice cream and bouncy castle on offer.

A popular fundraising challenge that is also set to return is “Beast the Coaches”, whereby people are invited to donate 20p to dish out punishments to all 11 of the O.P.T Coaches.

Clinton Slater, Director of O.P.T and ex-serving forces personnel, said: “We are looking forward to our annual Sports Day getting underway. Last year’s event was a great success, with more than 400 people coming down to support us; sports fanatics, children, and families alike.

“The events are designed to be fun and alternative to your regular sports day, and are open to people of all fitness levels and abilities, so we really hope to see even more people attending this year, either participating in the events themselves or cheering on those who are.”

The day is in support of QEHB Charity’s Fisher House, a state-of-the-art ‘home away from home’ on the site of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which is the receiving hospital for all the UK’s military patients when they are injured or fall ill anywhere around the world.  Fisher House provides a place for military families to stay whilst their loved ones are on the wards, as well as veterans and service personnel whose injuries mean they need to return to the hospital for outpatient procedures.

Clinton added: “This is a great opportunity to have a fun family day out whilst raising vital funds so that military patients can have their loved ones close by when they are being treated at hospital.”

Michael Tivey, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Clinton, Barny and everyone at O.P.T for their continued support of QEHB Charity and Fisher House. Although families stay at the home for free, it costs QEHB Charity £25 per night to accommodate them. It is thanks to the invaluable support of both individuals and organisations like OPT that we are able to offer support to military patients and their families at a time when they need it most.”
