QEHB Charity staff member raises hundreds for eye appeal

Earlier this month QEHB Charity’s very own Grants Officer, Tina Hales, took part in a 5k ‘fun run’ to raise money for the Charity’s Eye Appeal.

The kind-hearted mum-of-two joined the race with her daughter, Erin, 18, who currently receives treatment for an eye condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Tina said: “Staff at the QE have taken such good care of Erin, so we decided to raise money for the eye department in particular.

“We raised £350 and I managed to complete the run in 35 minutes… not bad, especially as I could only run for about one minute before stopping three months before the race!”

Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “The fun run is a great event for people of all abilities and we really admire the determination and effort that was put in by both Tina and Erin in the lead up to the race.

“The money raised will help us continue to provide added extras, research, facilities and equipment, above what the NHS can provide, for patients like Erin who receive eye care at the QE.”
