Southam Squadron 2028 Air Cadets make flying visit to Fisher House
On Sunday 31 July, air cadets from Southam Squadron 2028, including Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton, paid a visit to Fisher House, on the site of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, to see first-hand where their hard-earned donations will be spent.
Fisher House is QEHB Charity’s ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families. QEHB is home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, meaning it is the receiving hospital for all the UK’s military personnel when they are injured or fall ill, at home or abroad.
Every year, Southam Squadron 2028 participate in a sponsored swim and snorkel, with proceeds going to Fisher House, which is completely funded by charitable donations. It costs £25 for a family to stay for one night in the 18-bedroom, fully accessible house. The annual swim and snorkel event is facilitated by Ray Kirton and ScubAction diving group, the air cadets, Southam Leisure Centre and North Leamington School. The event will take place again this November.
Daryll Moreton, on behalf of the cadets, thanked Sian Averill (QEHB Charity Fundraising Officer) for the visit, adding that “they were all lovely, and made us very welcome at Fisher House. It’s a great life experience.”
Sian said: “We are incredibly grateful to Ray and the volunteers of Southam 2028 Air Cadet Squadron for their hard work in order to raise money for Fisher House UK, and honoured that they have chosen to support the house again this year. Thank you all for making a real difference to the UK’s military families.”
