Tony Iommi’s Charity auction raises astonishing sum for NHS

Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi has raised an incredible £18,985 for Heartlands Hospital Charity after auctioning a number of unique pieces of heavy metal memorabilia including his very own Epiphone SG guitar.

Tony decided to launch the auction to raise money for Heartlands Hospital Charity to support the work of the staff at this difficult time. Tony is patron of Ward 19, the specialist cancer ward at the hospital, and had planned on holding ‘An Evening with Tony Iommi’ before the pandemic struck.

Speaking to BBC Midlands Today, Tony said: “I’ve got a collection of guitars and I was due to do something for the NHS before the virus came.”

“I wanted to do something to raise money fast to help, so the obvious thing for me was to sell some memorabilia and I’ve got a guitar that was in my studio that I thought I’d put up for auction.”

The money that Tony has raised will be helping Heartlands Hospital Charity to support the staff on Ward 19 throughout this challenging time. Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising for Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “We are all incredibly thankful to Tony for his generosity in auctioning off these amazing items to raise money to support our NHS Superheroes. The auction was a great success and our thanks go to all of Tony’s followers who bid on the items.”

Tony is continuing his support for Ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital, and still plans to hold ‘An Evening with Tony Iommi’ in the future.
