Transplant patient raises over £40,000 for Liver Department

Nicola Merry, who had her liver  transplant on 15 September 2003, has dedicated her time to fundraising for the hospital that saved her life.

After 15 years of fundraising, Nicola has reached her milestone goal of raising £40,000 for the Liver Department here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Nicola has fundraised through many different events, and still has more coming up in the future.

Her last event, the one that brought her grand total to £40,000, was a charity night which involved a karaoke and just a good time for friends and family to get together and raise some money for the Charity.

Nicola’s parents and grandparents have also been involved in the fundraising, doing charity walks and charity nights to help her raise even more money.

On the 15 year anniversary of Nicola’s transplant, 15 September 2018, one of her friends will be shaving all of her hair off to raise money, and four little girls will be cutting their long hair for the cause.

All of the money Nicola has raised will go towards ‘added extras’ for the department and help to save more lives just like hers.

Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising at QEHB Charity, said: “I am delighted that Nicola is still fundraising for the Liver Department here at QEHB and has managed to raise such a huge amount of money that will go towards ‘added extras’ for patients and staff in the Liver Department at the hospital. We will be able to invest in new research and equipment thanks to donations like this, whether they are big or small.”
