University Hospitals Birmingham Charity launches free will writing partnership with Bequeathed

University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, a group of four hospital charities covering the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital, has launched a free will-writing service with Bequeathed, which will offer staff, patients and their families across University Hospitals Birmingham Charity an opportunity to secure their loved ones’ futures.

Around two thirds of adults in the UK do not have a will, which is why Bequeathed is offering a free will-writing service that is simple and convenient, allowing people to make the right will for them in the way that suits them best.

Bequeathed’s online service offers a simple, step-by-step way to write a will, and if at any time during the process the customer needs more detailed legal advice, Bequeathed will be able to put them in touch with local law firm, FBC Manby Bowdler Solicitors, which will offer them a price to complete the will.

With so many people in the UK currently living without a will, many people are unaware of the difference that having a will can make to their loved ones after they die. The only way for someone to make sure that the people and causes that they care about are looked after once you die is by having a will.

For those people who die without a will, the law distributes their estate. This doesn’t always mean that everything is passed to the person’s spouse, and couples are even less protected if they are not married.

Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, said: “UHB Charity is delighted to have partnered with Bequeathed to offer those at University Hospitals Birmingham this free will-writing service. Modern life is busy and hectic, especially for our hard-working staff across the hospitals, and writing a will can feel like a task that’s never top of the to-do list, no matter how important we may feel that it is.

“Thanks to Bequeathed, we are able to offer people the chance to write their will in a straightforward manner, for free, which makes the process as easy as possible.”

Jon Brewer, CEO of Bequeathed, said: “To be able to provide 20,000 staff and all their family and friends with a free will is a privilege.  It gives them peace of mind as well as the opportunity to leave a small gift to a charity that makes such a difference in the region.”

Neil Lloyd, Sales Director at FBC Manby Bowdler Solicitors, said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham Charity and Bequeathed to support this service.

“Making a will is a simple way to ensure that your wishes are carried out when you die and that your loved ones are cared for. We will be able to help those people who have more complex estates to get the right will in place to give them peace of mind.”
