Virtual Velo Challenge launches!

University Hospitals Birmingham Charity has launched a new cycling challenge taking place this summer that allows participant to clock up mileage in their own time.

Virtual Velo offers people the chance to take on either the 100 mile challenge or the Marathon Challenge (2,620 miles). Unlike any other cycling challenge, Virtual Velo is taking place over a six month period, allowing people to cycle at their own pace.
Here’s UHB Charity’s Cycling Ambassador, Phil Upton, with more information:

Virtual Velo is open to everyone, whether you’re an experienced road cyclist who can ride 50 miles in a morning, or a novice who prefers to cycle for a mile in the park, you can take on Virtual Velo and help to raise vital funds for our NHS at this difficult time.

University Hospitals Birmingham Charity has set up a special website, virtualvelo.org, where participants can set up their own challenge page and then link in to their fitness app. Every ride they make, whether that’s on the roads, in the park, or on the exercise bike at home, are automatically downloaded from the fitness app to their challenge page and adds to the total miles ridden.

Virtual Velo is completely free to take part in, and everyone is welcome to take part!

Charlotte Schofield, Director of Fundraising at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, said: “At this really difficult time we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to take on a fun cycling challenge to help to raise money to support our NHS.

“We were all disappointed to see Velo Birmingham & Midlands 2020 get cancelled, and we wanted to set up our own event that would give our amazing cyclists the chance to continue cycling this summer.

“The money that is raised from Virtual Velo will help us to continue to provide crucial support to our 22,000 members of staff, and the patients that they treat, across University Hospitals Birmingham.”
