TB VR Lab courses (Voxelman Simulator)

Course outline:

This is an exciting course offering trainees the option of supplementing their operative training in Otology by drilling temporal bones in virtual reality (VR) in the West Midlands ENT Dry Lab using the Voxelman simulators, as well as practising ossiculoplasty skills on a new passive middle ear implant simulator.
Course content:

Candidates will spend 3-hours drilling, learning techniques involved in:
• Cortical mastoidectomy
• Mastoid exploration
• Canal wall up/down mastoid surgery

Additionally, passive middle ear implants and a non-VR simulator to practice techniques involved in ossiculoplasty will be available, supplied by Med-El.
The real strength of this course is that it enables trainees of all training stages to refine their mastoid surgery skills whilst revising/learning temporal bone anatomy.

All courses are run by expert Consultant Otologists (Course organiser +/- visiting faculty), to enable ongoing individually tailored training and feedback throughout the courses.

Please note:
This course should be the first stop for all trainees new to/inexperienced in mastoid surgery and TB drilling.  We suggest a minimum of 5-10 TB VR Lab courses before graduating to the TB Dry Lab courses, to enable inexperienced trainees to achieve a secure grasp of the complex TB anatomy and refine their drilling skills prior to moving onto using consumables.
For more experienced trainees we recommend this course to solidify mastoid surgery skills with repeated practice thereof, which will extend their understanding of TB anatomy required for FRCS examination and clinical practice.
