Family and friends run fun run to raise money for Good Hope Hospital

Ian and Sara Chalmers found out at 35 weeks and five days pregnant that their baby girl, Lilly Mae Chalmers, had stopped breathing and the family spent time in the Snowdrop Suite, Good Hope Hospital’s bereavement suite.

The couple, along with their son, Charlie, and close family and friends decided to sign up for the Balsall Common Fun Run to raise money for Good Hope Hospital Charity.

The hospital charity is fundraising for a new bereavement suite so families like the Chalmers’ can spend time with their babies after they are born.

The couple said: “This is very close to us as the midwives who looked after us at Good Hope were amazing and we want to be able to give something back to them. This room will be a great resource for them when dealing with such a difficult situation.”

The family and friends that took part in the Balsall Common Fun Run have so far raised a huge £1,620, beating their target of £500!

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager for Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “Thank you so much to Ian, Sara, Charlie and all of their family and friends who have helped fundraise for the new bereavement suite at Good Hope Hospital. It is so sad that our bereavement suite is used so often, but if it wasn't for families like Ian and Sara's fundraising for those 'added extras', we wouldn't be able to provide couples like theirs with this experience.

"The bereavement suite at Good Hope will mean so much to the families who go through the heart breaking experience of losing a baby. To be able to provide them with a space like this will make the time they get to spend with their baby more comfortable and it won’t seem like a clinical environment."

The couple’s JustGiving page is still open so you can still help them fundraise for Good Hope Hospital’s new bereavement suite, to donate please click here.
