Great Grandparents continue fundraising efforts

Last summer, we brought you the story of Peter and Doreen Brayley who had donated £1,800 to Heartlands Hospital Charity to purchase two breastfeeding recliner chairs for the Neonatal Unit at the hospital.

Doreen and Peter have returned to Heartlands Hospital with a second cheque, for a further £1,400 for the unit to purchase breast pumps. The fundraising couple raised the money through a host of car boot sales, and have no plans to stops fundraising any time soon.

Their great grandson, Reggie, was born seven weeks early in September 2017 and spent the first month of his life on the Neonatal Unit. The care that he received whilst on the ward has inspired Peter and Doreen to raise money for the unit.

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Huge thanks go to Peter and Doreen for their amazing fundraising efforts! To have raised £3,200 for the Neonatal Unit since the birth of their great grandson is incredible, and the money will make a huge difference to mothers and babies on the ward.

“The breastfeeding recliner chairs that we bought with their donations have allowed mothers and their babies to sit comfortably when breastfeeding. Thanks to their latest donation, mothers on the unit will have modern, comfortable breast pumps to use. This will make life easier for mothers whose babies need to spend time on the Neonatal Unit here at Heartlands Hospital.
