Heartlands Hospital Children's Garden

Thanks to the many generous donations received, Heartlands Hospital Charity has funded a complete refurbishment to the new Children's Day Surgery Unit and a Children’s garden and play area at Heartlands Hospital.

The departments are now much lighter, brighter and more child-friendly, incorporating beautiful artwork and new features which have transformed the look and feel of the wards. The garden is completely accessible and allows young inpatients at Heartlands Hospital to enjoy some time outside in a fun and exciting space, giving them a break from being on the wards. Complete with a pirate ship, the garden gives space for children of all ages to play or simply to sit. The area is now a bright, and appealing, central play area which can also assist children with additional needs and help with the distress of being in hospital.

Amee Denyer-Smith, Senior Practice Development Nurse at University Hospitals Birmingham, said: Our teams work tirelessly to support children and families who access services across our trust. We are dedicated to delivering compassionate healthcare to children aged 0-16 years. The renovations at our hospitals will make a huge difference to the experience our children and their families have, and it will help make their time with us more comfortable.”
