Children's Inpatient Wards at Heartlands Hospital

As part of our efforts to improve the environment of the Children’s Department at Heartlands Hospital, Heartlands Hospital Charity is continuing to fundraise to improve the Children’s Wards and Departments.

We have renovated the main entrance, the main corridors on the ground and first floors, and transformed Wards 14, 15, and 16, including the Day Surgery, the Paediatric Assessment Unit, and the High Dependency Unit.

The wards were incredibly dark and not particularly welcoming.  For families spending long periods of time and making regular visits to the wards, the environment was oppressive.  Whilst we can never fully alleviate the distress caused by having a child in hospital, we hope that redecorating the Wards has helped create a more welcoming and brighter environment, thus having a positive impact on the wellbeing of patients and their families.

Thanks to your generous donations we have created a more child-friendly environment, complete with new wall art and features which have transformed the look and feel of the ward, creating a lighter and brighter space.

This project will ensure that children and families are greeted by a bright, warm environment to match the exceptional care they receive.  During what will likely be the most difficult time of a child’s life, we hope to provide some comfort to our young patients and families, ensuring they are well-cared for in every way possible from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.
